After reading the comments on this great site for the last 2 months, I have jumped in with both feet. I bought a new Kubota B2910 with a FEL and R4 tires. It is to be delivered Saturday. Now that I have signed on the dotted line I am having second thoughts on how it will be set up. The dealer told me I would not need a block heater and he didn't recommend loading the tires. Since then I have talked to a few compact tractor owners and they say the opposite. I live in N central New Hampshire where the temp can be at -20F for weeks at a time. Will I be able to get by without a block heater? If not, would a magnetic mount heater be useful or should I install one into the block? Dealer quoted $70 for the heater (not installed). Are there sites on the www where I could get a better price? If I were to get the filling valve, could I load the tires myself or should I drive the tractor 12 miles round trip to the tire dealer to have them filled?I plan on buying a rear blower and a landscape rake to maintain ½ mile of driveway and a rear mower for 3-4 acres of lawn an fields. I will be using the FEL for general chores and harvesting firewood around the 12 acres of woods and fields. Thanks,David

David, Here in Maine they just included the block heater as part of the package on my B 2710. It does start well with just the glow plugs, but having the engine block and oil warm can only help. $35 seems closer to the value. So I'd have it installed. Good luck JT ....

I have one of the valves to fill tires, I got it from TSC. I works pretty good. I have filled probably 6 or 8 tires since I got it and it's alot cheaper than taking it to the dealer. ....

JT,
Thanks for the info on the block heater. $35 sounds reasonable but I haven't been able to locate one for less than $70 yet.

Don,
Is TSC an online store? If not, does anyone know of online stores where I can buy a valve to load my tires.
I am still not sure weather to use calcium, antifreeze of windshield washer fluid. I would also like to know where I could buy a service manual and a block heater for my B2910.
Thanks for the help. This is a great board!

David, any Kubota dealer should be able to order the manuals for you. I ordered mine from Carver Equipment, who advertises on this forum; $88 for the Shop Manual and $38 for the Parts Manual for a B2710 about a year and a half ago. And you definitely want the Parts Manual to go with the Shop Manual. ....

I have the same machine and have started it at 20 degrees with no problem at all. as far as ballast goes I bought a weight box from my dealer it was a 20x20 cube ,didn't like it so I cut it in half, front to back ,so now it is closer to the tractor and is easier to use in a tight area, filled it with lead weight from the supply house ,400lbs, and it goes anywhere, and still doesn't crush the lawn ....
